I taught writing and modern literature at the university level for 12 years; and I will never forget one semester when a formerly good student explained her sudden faltering and declining as due to her parents getting a divorce. Emotional problems leading to changes in personality and academic performance were amazingly clear in that 19-year-old. Later in life, and after serving on two juries, I decided to go to law school. Time passed, and over 4 years ago my new lawyer friend (also a judge), Kim MacEachern, told me about her group Stand Up Speak Up Save a Life, and invited me to join the Board. Given that there were two teens in my extended family then going through shyness, anxiety, and some bullying in high school, I strongly identified with the mission of this group. I have been proud to be a Board member ever since I said Yes and am honored to work with such talented people in various fields and school districts.
